How to compare SAP SuccessFactors AMS providers

For the CHRO and CIO · AMS buyer guide

How do you compare SAP SuccessFactors AMS and support providers?

Compare SuccessFactors AMS providers on five things: what is actually in scope beyond incident handling, who works your tickets and how senior they are, how the semi-annual SAP releases are tested and absorbed, what governance cadence you get with a service lead, and how change requests are priced. Ticket-count SLAs look precise but say little about outcomes, a provider that closes tickets quickly while your payroll exceptions grow is not helping. The strongest AMS arrangements combine run stability with a continuous improvement backlog, so the platform advances between projects instead of standing still.

Start with scope, not with SLAs

Most AMS comparisons start with response and resolution targets because they are easy to tabulate. They are also the least differentiating part of the offer. Every credible provider will meet a P1 response commitment; almost none of them will tell you upfront how they handle the slow erosion that actually degrades an HR platform, undocumented workarounds, drifting permissions, integration exceptions that get manually cleared every month.

Ask each provider to describe, in writing, what happens beyond incidents: configuration changes, release regression testing, reporting and analytics upkeep, integration monitoring, and a prioritised improvement backlog owned jointly with you.

The five comparison dimensions

  • Scope depth: incidents only, or run plus optimisation plus a roadmap for what comes next.
  • Who does the work: the seniority and rotation rate of the people on your queue, and whether they know your configuration or read a runbook.
  • Release absorption: how the two SAP releases per year are assessed, regression-tested and communicated to your HR team.
  • Governance: a service lead, a regular operating cadence, and reporting that connects platform health to business outcomes.
  • Commercials: what counts as in-scope change versus a project, and how quickly small enhancements can be delivered.
A support partner that only closes tickets keeps you exactly where you are. A good one leaves the platform better each quarter.

Questions that separate providers quickly

  • Who specifically will hold our service-lead role, and what else are they responsible for?
  • Walk us through your last SuccessFactors release cycle, what did you test, and what did you tell clients to act on?
  • How do you handle payroll exceptions that recur every period rather than failing outright?
  • What does your transition-in look like, and how long before you are independent of our internal team?
  • What percentage of your effort last year was improvement work rather than incident handling?

How EC Experts runs AMS

EC Experts runs SuccessFactors managed services with senior practitioners, the same profile of people who implement. Engagements are structured as run, optimise and evolve: stabilise the platform, retire the workarounds, then use the semi-annual SAP releases as planned improvement moments rather than surprises.

Each client has a service lead, a regular governance cadence, and a shared improvement backlog. We deliver support in English and French, and can take over platforms we did not implement through a structured knowledge takeover.

Frequently asked questions

What should be in scope for SuccessFactors AMS?

Incident and problem management, configuration changes, release assessment and regression testing, integration monitoring, reporting upkeep, and a jointly owned improvement backlog.

How often does SAP release SuccessFactors updates?

SAP delivers SuccessFactors releases twice a year. A good AMS partner assesses each release, regression-tests what matters to you, and tells your HR team what to act on.

Can an AMS provider take over a platform they did not implement?

Yes, through a structured transition: configuration discovery, documentation rebuild, integration inventory and a shadow period before full takeover.

Should we use ticket volume as a success measure?

Only as a diagnostic. Falling ticket volume with a growing improvement backlog is health; fast closure with recurring issues is not.

Do we need AMS if we have an internal HRIS team?

Often the best model is hybrid, your team keeps business ownership and configuration authority while the partner covers depth, releases, payroll and integration escalation.

Is AMS available in French and Arabic?

With EC Experts, yes, French-first support from Montréal and Arabic-capable support from Dubai.
